Gigs in Edinburgh

Eugene Kelly + Withered Hand @ Summerhall, 21 Apr
The Vaselines guitarist and noted favourite of Kurt Cobain looks back over his three decades in music at Summerhall, with support from folk troubadour Withered Hand.

Wide Days @ La Belle Angèle, Liquid Room & Teviot, 21 Apr
The annual celebration of new Scottish music returns to Edinburgh this week. The Ninth Wave are joined at La Belle Angèle by The Spook School; Emme Woods and JR Green play Teviot Row House, and the Liquid Room line-up features Declan Welsh, Vistas and The Vegan Leather. All great bands, all worth checking out, and all for free. Sign up for tickets via the Wide Days website – read our profile of this year's line-up here.

Honeyblood @ Liquid Room, 22 Apr
You'll be able to see an acoustic set from Stina earlier in the day (more on that in a second), but to get the full Honeyblood experience you need to catch them in full flight. Tweeddale and Myers bring the riot grrl-inspired noise of latest LP Babes Never Die to the Liquid Room – read our recent interview with the duo here.

Live music in Glasgow

Pumarosa @ Poetry Club, 18 Apr
London-based Pumarosa are set to release their much-anticipated debut album, The Witch, next month. The band first came to our attention with their broody, dance-tinged track Priestess, released back in 2015, which has since gone on to be remixed by Skinny fave, Shura. Catch them in the intimate surrounds of The Poetry Club.

Dialects @ The Garage, 20 Apr
The Glasgow post-rockers hit the Garage ahead of the release of their new double A-side single; listen to our premiere of new track When You Die, You're Truly Alone.

Outskirts @ Platform, 22 Apr
Platform's multi-faceted one-dayer returns this weekend, with Suse Bear of Tuff Love and Steev Livingstone of Errors joining forces for the latest in the venue's Easterhouse Conversations collaborations. We caught up with Suse to find out what's in store – read the interview here – while elsewhere on the line-up Sound of Yell perform a live score to film La Coquille and Le Clergyman, there's performance from Nic Green, and much more besides.

TeenCanteen @ Nice N Sleazy, 22 Apr
TeenCanteen are back with their brand new EP Sirens, out on Record Store Day, and Carla Easton's power-pop girl gang share their new tracks at Sleazy's. Watch the video for new track Millions in the player above.

Deafheaven @ Saint Luke's, 23 Apr
Scene try-hards may have tried to tar them with the brush of 'hipster black metal', but Deafheaven's blend of abrasive riffs and beats with shoegaze elements is a winning combination. Third album New Bermuda saw the California band continue to push forward – expect fireworks at Saint Luke's.

Record Store Day in Edinburgh and Glasgow

There's so much going on this Record Store Day (Sat 22 Apr) that it really deserves its own round-up. Luckily, we have just the thing – head over here to check out our RSD round-up. Highlights include VoxBox's outlandish line-up of Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison, Honeyblood's Stina Tweeddale, BC Camplight, Meursault and many, many more; and ULTRAS, Pronto Mama and Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5 at Love Music in Glasgow. But, as we say, there's plenty to get stuck into – happy shopping!

Gig of the week

The Eclectica Experiment @ The Caves, Edinburgh, 20 Apr
OK, we might be a bit biased seeing as we curated the thing, but we're sure you'll agree this is a pretty exciting line-up. Law Holt premieres her new and highly-danceable project Iklan, Future Get Down bring their synth-fuelled electro stylings to the party, and Meursault and Faith Eliott provide some earthy, lo-fi sounds to balance things out. Oh, and there's also spoken word from Iona Lee and Daniel Piper, film from Scottish Ballet, and dance from Ashanti Harris. A ten pound ticket gets you all that, PLUS five whisky cocktails devised by some of the city's best bartenders. Get your tickets here – you won't regret it.
