Gigs in Glasgow

Cameron Avery @ King Tut's, 11 Apr
The Tame Impala bassist and Pond co-founder presents tracks from his "muscular and cinematic" debut solo album, Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams

Hot 8 Brass Band @ O2 ABC, 12 Apr
A favourite of BBC 6 Music's Craig Charles, Hot 8 are a New Orleans-based band who mix together jazz, hip-hop and funk in one big fun-packed combo. You can also catch them at The Liquid Room in Edinburgh on 11 Apr – details here.

GIRLI @ Stereo, 14 Apr
North London rapper, singer and producer GIRLI hits town on Good Friday, her earlier feminist rage-raps and lyrical snarls making way for a slightly softer pop-punk sound in new single Not That Girl. Still, you should get an earful of her back-catalogue at her Stereo show this weekend.

Charlotte Church's Late Night Pop Dungeon @ Oran Mor, 14 Apr
Any night which jumps from Amerie to Neutral Milk Hotel is alright in our book, and when that night is piloted by as charismatic a presence as Charlotte Church, all the better. Join Church and her band for an evening of high-octane pop covers; expect the unexpected.

PWR BTTM @ CCA, 15 Apr
The queer punk duo bring their imminent second album Pageant to Glasgow – we caught up with Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce this month to talk 'taking the new album for a walk', their growth since debut LP Ugly Cherries, and the inspirational power of Christina Aguilera's cover of Lady Marmalade.

Part Chimp @ Stereo, 15 Apr
Explosively loud sludge merchants Part Chimp are back in support of their first album in eight years – catch the noise rock titans in the intimate confines of Stereo. Best remember your earplugs.

Live music in Edinburgh

Public Service Broadcasting @ Usher Hall, 12 Apr
Part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival, J. Willgoose, Esq. and Wrigglesworth celebrate the life of Yuri Gagarin with a full playthrough of their second album The Race for Space at the Usher Hall. They're joined by the National Youth Choir of Scotland and string quintet Mr McFall's Chamber; the evening kicks off with a chat about the making of the album with comedian and fellow science-lover Helen Keen. We caught up with Willgoose to discuss the album ahead of its final live outing – read our interview here.

PINS @ Sneaky Pete's, 15 Apr
Fresh from their new Iggy Pop-featuring EP, Manchester five-piece PINS bring their evolving surf-rock sound north of the border for a trio of shows. They hit Sneaky's this Saturday; the band also play Broadcast in Glasgow on Good Friday, and Beat Generator! in Dundee on Easter Sunday.

Terminal V @ Royal Highland Centre, 16 Apr
A monster line-up for Easter Sunday, Nightvision's all-dayer brings three stages of electronic fun to the Royal Highland Centre, including up-and-coming Belgian producer Charlotte De Witte, Detroit techno legend Carl Craig, and a live set from Resident Advisor live act of the year KiNK.

Gig of the Week

Pictish Trail @ The Caves, 13 Apr
Johnny Lynch, aka Pictish Trail, returns to Edinburgh with a full band to kick off Easter weekend in typically action-packed style. The Lost Map head honcho is joined at The Caves by highly-danceable Glasgow synth duo Happy Meals, with everyone's favourite dystopian techno producer Blanck Mass on DJ duty. Cosmic indie, Francophone synths, and one half of Fuck Buttons filling in the gaps? That's how you start a long weekend.
