Live music in Edinburgh this week

Tinariwen @ Queen's Hall, 25 Apr
The Tuareg orchestra blend together a huge range of influences, taking instrumentation and sonic stylings from European dance and transatlantic indie as well as heavy influences from their North and West African home. Catch them at The Queen's Hall, or at Oran Mor in Glasgow the following night.

TeenCanteen @ Sneaky Pete's, 28 Apr
Carla Easton's bubblegum punk four-piece play Sneaky's hot on the heels of the release of their new EP Sirens. Expect infectious melodies and playful lyrics tinged with nostalgia from the quartet.

Model Aeroplanes @ Teviot Underground, 28 Apr
Dundee-based Model Aeroplanes are made up of four lifelong friends, brought together by their love of making fresh, honest pop music. The band formed in 2013 and after playing only eight gigs, they found themselves playing the prestigious BBC Introducing Stage at T in the Park. Having released their debut EP Something Like Heaven last year they have plans for a second this year, as well as a long-awaited debut album.

Wild Beasts @ Summerhall, 1 May
Wild Beasts took a more electronic slant on most recent album Boy King, so be ready for more of the same on their return to Summerhall. Bassist Tom Fleming put together a playlist of the tracks that inspired the album – take a look (and listen) here.

The Skinny's Gig of the Week

Jambinai @ O2 ABC 2, 25 Apr

Jambinai are a South-Korean post-rock band signed to Bella Union in the UK. The trio met while studying traditional music at Korea’s National University of Arts in Seoul, where they were drawn to each other by a longing to present music in a new and exciting way. With the use of traditional Korean instruments such as the haegum (fiddle), piri (bamboo flute) and geomungo (zither), you’ll be shocked at the enormous sound this band make.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Future Islands @ Barrowland Ballroom, 27 Apr
Future Islands, then? They're playing the Barras tonight following the release of shiny new LP The Far Field, their first record since 80’s synth-pop winner Singles. We spoke to frontman Samuel T. Herring about the new album which you can read here. Safe to say we're prr-etty excited.

Los Campesinos! @ Stereo, 28 Apr
The lovely folks at TYCI present everyone's favourite Welsh indie seven-piece, a liberating set of songs about odious city hipsters, youthful nostalgia and future anxiety – read our chat with LC!'s Gareth David from February about life, the universe and everything.

Washington Irving @ Stereo, 29 Apr
A ten-part journey through love, death, human connection and grief, Washington Irving's new album August 1914 is a "concept album about 20th century war". Hear tracks from the new record at Stereo, and watch the music video for The Great Unrest here.

Japandroids @ Garage, 30 Apr
The Canadian duo are back with new album Near to the Wild Heart of Life – catch them at the Garage this weekend.

Stag & Dagger, 30 Apr
The multi-venue one-dayer is back for 2017 with an intriguing line-up of new and established names. Grab a wristband and get exploring – we recommend catching the futuristic electro of Future Get Down, Gold Panda's ethereal soundscapes, and the out-and-out art rock party that is The Vegan Leather.
