Playing With the Past @ The Pleasance, 26 June

Article by Michael Hunter | 17 Jun 2009

One of the more interesting shows at this year's international film festival, Playing With the Past is nothing less than a good rummage through the treasure chest of the national film archive, sympathetically scored by local musicians. This trawl promises rare screenings of shorts from the known and unknown of Scottish screen, as well as a horde of unseen archival footage. Added incentive comes in the form of the aforementioned live score, performed by three acts who perhaps best represent the differing strands of Edinburgh’s burgeoning alt-folk scene. Meursault, Eagleowl and Found are all capable of conjuring both hushed intimacy and wide-open space, as the mood of the footage dictates. All in all, a magical night is surely in store.

8pm, £6.50
