Metal Up Your Ass - July, 2008

Soak up the chun!

Feature by Jamie Borthwick | 26 Jun 2008

You don't get summertime metal songs. But then Mungo Jerry couldn't peel out a four minute solo on his SG, the Kinks couldn't do hardcore vocals and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince didn't have any beatdowns. So don't despair riff lovers, we can turn this July black with a searing septet of heaviosity.

Wednesday, 2 July brings self-proclaimed shoegaze metallers Capgun to Henry's in Edinburgh from their native North Wales. Support comes from The Humble Hoax. Norwich screamo masters Maths pop by Balcony Bar in Dundee for a few rounds of classic skramz on the 4 July, with support including a return to the scene from ultra-tight We Shall Be Blessed.

Dexters in Dundee hosts melodic rockers Life Among People on 7 July, and on Wednesday, 9 July Autistic Youth from Portland, USA will floor The Twisted Wheel on Glasgow's Queen Street. Support from Intentions. Fast, heavy and melodic hardcore comes to Edinburgh at Henry's in the form of Liverpool's Chief on 24 July. Taking Chase and Prehistoric Pyromaniacs beef up the bill.

More pit action can be found at King Tut's on Sunday, 27 July when Johnny Truant steam into town, and there's crushing metalcore from Dividing the Line, downstairs at Barfly in Glasgow on Monday 28th.

Get out there and soak up the chun. (I don't know what that means either, you'd best consult Urban Dictionary - Ed)
