Sultry Canadian songstress set to stun new venue in the capital

Article by Ryan Drever | 30 Sep 2008

Sultry Canadian-American songstress Martha Wainwright makes her return to the capital to debut at the Picture House, Edinburgh's newest landmark on the musical map. Hailing from a rich musical lineage - the daughter of Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III, and sister of Rufus - Martha will be one of the first few to play this exciting new 1500 capacity venue, and from the look of it, it should be the perfect vehicle for her emotionally wrought but delicate acoustic anthems. From her beginnings, Martha most often lurked in the background of her relatives recordings, but only since 2005's self-titled release has she made a big impression in her own right. From scoring top marks with critics to gaining sell out crowds and even finding the time to collaborate with Snow Patrol on Set The Fire To The Third Bar, the emotional weight of her songs is near palpable. This year's follow up, I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too, is no different, continuing her strain of witty but cathartic and beautiful songs to the acclaim, again, of just about anybody in earshot.
