Fourteen years since the end of Richey-era Manics, only the most blinkered, boa-clad 4realist would persist in crying Judas over the band’s continuation into middle-age. Balancing rabble-rousing passion with the prerogative to experiment has resulted in perfect pop (Your Love Alone) as well as fan-base alienating digressions (the under-appreciated Lifeblood), and now, in a move sure to please mascara-clad acolytes, their ninth album boasts Richey lyrics and a Holy Bible-echoing cover. Choosing to play it in its entirety every night on tour suggests they’re confident it bears comparison with their considerable past glories; find out for yourself later this month.
