Gimme Shelter 4

Article by Euan Ferguson | 21 Nov 2008

Ever since Geldof and co assembled the cream of the 80s for Live Aid 23 years ago, charity and music have gone hand-in-hand. We’ve been spoilt for choice recently in Scotland, especially with the month-long Oxjam celebrations. Joining the benevolent ranks is Gimme Shelter, providing musical fun and raising funds Edinburgh and Glasgow for the homeless charity Shelter.

Now in its third year, the event has a history of showcasing the biggest names in Scottish music along with up-and-coming talent. The Caves plays host to the Edinburgh event on 29 November, with a band lineup including Broken Records, De Rosa, and Eagleowl. Taking the night through to 3am will be exclusive DJ sets from Found and Black Affair man Steve Mason.

Over in Glasgow, the event moves into Mono for a day-long celebration which cunningly coincides with St Andrews Day. Waving the Saltire will be Frightened Rabbit, Findo Gask and Down the Tiny Steps, among many others.

Gimme Shelter takes place at The Caves, Edinburgh on 29 Nov (8.30pm-3.00am). Tickets are £8 (£6 adv) and Mono, Glasgow on 30 Nov (all day). Entry is by donation to Shelter.
