Friendly Fires @ The Picture House, 6 May

Article by Heather Crumley | 22 Apr 2009

They might have rode in amid next-big-thing hysteria, but dismiss St Albans trio Friendly Fires as over-hyped at your peril. Last year’s self-titled debut album is an infectious blend of spiky math-rock and woozy blissed-out dance which, while still being a hugely enjoyable listen off the dancefloor, is simply made to move to. The Glasgow show to follow their jaunt to Auld Reekie has been upgraded from the QMU to the ABC, suggesting the excitement surrounding the band is yet to reach its peak. Either that, or someone quite rightly realised that the only thing that could make shimmying to Skeleton Boy any more fun is a giant glitterball.

7pm, £10

Also playing ABC, Glasgow on 7 May.
