Earth @ Nice 'n' Sleazy, 19 Apr

Despite its unpleasantly abject title, last year’s The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull demonstrated a subtlety rarely associated with long-haired, doom-laden depressives like Earth, at times sounding borderline chipper. But while their latest album wasn’t the monolithic drone their reputation suggested, don’t expect pulled punches when they return to Glasgow to perform it live - by all accounts, Earth can still do intense-biblical-loud as well as sludgey-lava-slow. You see, regardless of the (honey) sweet melodies, there’s no ignoring the inherent drama of such hypnotically ominous, immensely epic soundscapes - so just close your eyes and bask!
