Dundee Blues Bonanza @ Various Venues, 23-25 July

Article by Jack Tractor | 29 Mar 2010

Strong echoes emanating out of Chicago and the Mississippi Delta will reverberate through Dundee's city centre come July as the city readies itself once again to host one of Europe's largest street Blues Festivals.

With its proud boast, 'All day, all free, all blues', The Bonanza, now in its 16th year, is a truly international celebration with over 120 acts covering all the blues bases while also encompassing elements of Rhythm n' Blues, Rock'n'roll, Cajun, Zydeco, Rockabilly and Boogie-woogie.

Heavy hitting headliners this year include Mud (son of Muddy Waters) Morganfield, Little Jimmy Reed and Otis Grand (thanks in part to support from the Angus & Dundee Innovation Development Fund) while previous years have seen bands from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Australia, Ireland, Canada and the USA hitting the city's stages.

With its compact city centre, Dundee is the perfect place for a walkabout festival. 30 or so venues, none of which are more then ten minutes walk apart, will host over 125 performances over the weekend. The event also includes workshops for both adults and kids as well acoustic and electric jams if you fancy tripping the 12-bars yourself.

Go careful though, on this particular weekend every corner will be at the crossroads.
