Deerhoof @ The Bongo Club, Edinburgh, 8 Dec

Article by Eric Ledford | 17 Nov 2009

Over the course of ten albums and countless tours, this band still sounds as unique and singular as they did in the beginning. Their stylistic gambits continually keep everyone on their toes, congealing around the unaffected and childlike coos of singer/bassist Satomi Matsuzaki and propelled by her beefy brethren, who drift between riffs of choppy rock, sticky pop/fluff and noisy, unstructured chaos. Always stunning in their willingness to court the unexpected with their music, San Francisco’s well-loved soundworkers will subtly and convincingly make themselves known as they continue to bore their way into the tiny heartfelt spaces located somewhere between our collective ears.
