British Sea Power @ The Arches, 26 Jan

Always a band that can be relied upon to produce songs of hidden depth and intriguing eccentricity

Article by Graeme Blaikie | 05 Feb 2008

It seems like British Sea Power have been away for an age, with only last autumn's outstanding Krankenhaus? EP to keep fans going since Open Season was released back in early 2005. However, they are currently limbering up for a round of live shows this month in support of their third album, Do You Like Rock Music? Always a band that can be relied upon to produce songs of hidden depth and intriguing eccentricity, whilst not forgetting a good hook, they seem to exist in a world apart from the current scene, much like Echo and the Bunnymen did back in their eighties heyday. New single Waving Flags has all the hallmarks of a festival favourite in waiting, and with the songs from the new album said to be equally anthemic, this is a great chance to catch the boys up close and personal before the summer - and perhaps lay your hands on a piece of their almost legendary stage foliage.
