Alec Empire @ Ivory Blacks, 3 May

Article by Stephen Toman | 21 Apr 2009

Former Atari Teenage Riot mastermind Alec Empire (who was already fusing punk and dance when Liam Howlett was still making compilation ‘rave’ cassettes in his bedroom) returns to the UK with noise extraordinaire Nic Endo in support of their forthcoming mini-album Shivers. Forget other purveyors of pseudo-electro-retro-kitsch and watch as these two leatherclad extras from The Matrix push electronic music, and their listeners, past any pre-determined musical boundaries. His live presence is more of an assault on the audience than a source of their entertainment; chances are you’ll still have most of your beer left when the show finishes - you can drink it when the shock wears off.
