Five Steps to Big Boi

Sir Lucious introduces us to his vast catalogue with a five point guide to the essential selections

Feature by Big Boi | 27 Jul 2010

1. OutKast feat. Goodie Mob – Git Up, Git Out [Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, 1994]

This is definitely a form of motivational speaking; it’s there to motivate the listener to do something with their life. Instead of sitting around waiting on it to fall in your lap, you’ve got to go get it.

2. OutKast – B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) [Stankonia, 2000]
Bombs Over Baghdad is so adventurous – you have to get the video as well. It’s like a trip; high-powered, high energy, electronic. The lyricism is fast-paced as well, it’s very upbeat.

3. OutKast – Unhappy [Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, 2003]
This gives you a take on my family life; I talk about how I came up and my mom and dad’s relationship from a kid’s standpoint – how I was raised – just to give the listener a little background on that.

4. Purple Ribbon All-Stars – Kryptonite (I’m On It) [Got Purp? Vol 2, 2005]
This is just a go crazy, wild-type, set-the-club-on-fire song. It’s a little something to say ‘we can get the party started any time we want to’.

5. Big Boi feat. George Clinton Fo Yo Sorrows [Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, 2010]
This is basically saying ‘blow that shit out’, don’t let something stress you out so badly that it breaks you. Nothing is that serious; you’ll get past it.

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is out now on Def Jam
