Mogwai, The Phantom Band, Faust members set for 'krautrock' show in Glasgow

Feature by Dave Kerr | 27 Nov 2014

Members of The Phantom Band and Mogwai are set to team up with the founding member of German experimental rockers Faust for a one-off show in Glasgow to acknowledge the legacy of the krautrock movement of the 1960s and 70s.

Faust founder Hans Joachim Irmler, Stuart Braithwaite and Martin Bulloch of Mogwai, and Andy Wake and Duncan Marquiss of The Phantom Band will perform specially-created material at the Musik / Reise (Music / Travel) show at multi-arts venue Platform in Glasgow’s Easterhouse. Irmler will also play a solo set and field questions in a panel discussion.

On his involvement in Musik / Reise, Irmler says: “I am very happy to be invited to this ambitious project bringing together two or three musical generations united in wishing the audience to hear music as a sonic adventure.” Phantom Band guitarist Duncan Marquiss says: “I'm excited to be playing with this configuration of musicians. I hope the project in Easterhouse will create odd new hybrids – as opposed to some kind of classic krautrock homage.”

Earlier this week, The Phantom Band announced
the January release of Fears Trending
, their second album in just seven months. Mogwai release Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1., an EP of remixes and new material taken from sessions for their Rave Tapes LP, on 1 Dec.

Musik / Reise is at Platform in Easterhouse, Glasgow on 10 Jan 2015; tickets are £10.
