San Franciscan punk rock chameleons Deerhoof have shared the official video for 'Exit Only', starring Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon.

The video is the first to be taken from the band’s thirteenth studio album, La Isla Bonita – read our review of the “fusion of ideas guaranteed to mess with your mind” here.

Shannon, who portrayed General Zod in 2013 Superman reboot Man of Steel as well as making a brief appearance in the Bill Murray classic Groundhog Day, plays both of the duelling lead characters in the clip.

In hindsight, drummer Greg Saunier seemed to drop a hint over Shannon’s involvement in our interview for this month’s issue. On the subject of Joan Jett, and her influence on La Isla Bonita, Saunier said: “I watched the Runaways movie before we recorded anything. I really was crazy over the Kim Fowley character played by Michael Shannon, because his advice seems so apropos and genius. I completely bought into the manifesto, you know?”
