Track premiere: The Lucid Dream – 'Cold Killer'

Carlisle psych-rockers The Lucid Dream have unleashed 'Cold Killer', the first track taken from their forthcoming second album – listen to it exclusively here.

The reverb-laden, krautrock-inspired cut will feature on Mark Emmerson, Wayne Jefferson, Mike Denton and Luke Anderson's self-titled follow up to 2013's Songs of Lies and Deceit, due out on 30 February. Take a listen to the track in the player below.

The band are set for a series of gigs across England and Wales next month ahead of the release of The Lucid Dream, including shows at The Magnet in Liverpool on 13 Feb, Manchester's Roadhouse on 14 Feb and a hometown show at the Brickyard in Carlisle on 21 Feb.

Describing the process behind the track, singer and guitarist Mark Emmerson said: “'Cold Killer' was the first tune I wrote for the 2nd album, and was part of our live repertoire before the debut album had even came out. It probably shows that we had toured it extensively prior to recording.

“This is the first tune which came from our obsession with the likes of Can and Neu!. The whole idea of taking a repetitive drum beat, looping a bass pattern over, you could play tunes likes this for hours on end, and still buzz from it.”

The Lucid Dream is out on CD and digital 30 Mar via Holy Are You?, and vinyl via The Great Pop Supplement.

The Lucid Dream UK tour dates:
Sat 7 Feb: Un Deg Un, Wrexham

Fri 13 Feb: The Magnet, Liverpool
Sat 14 Feb: The Roadhouse, Manchester
Fri 20 Feb: The Cluny 2, Newcastle
