Chemikal Underground's inaugural East End Social will close with two days of one-off, gala performances by Mogwai, Hudson Mohawke, Optimo and Numbers at Glasgow's Richmond Park. On 30 and 31 August, the East End park will be converted into a temporary concert space, with post-rock behemoths Mogwai headlining a gig on 30 August, also featuring a wealth of Glasgow talent yet to be confirmed.

On the Sunday, clubbing institutions Optimo and Numbers will co-curate a day of electronic performances and DJ sets from the cream of Glasgow's vibrant scene, headlined by LuckyMe/Warp superproducer Hudson Mohawke. Full lineup details will be announced in the coming months.

Part music programme, part community engagement initiative, the East End Social will be off to a flying start in April, with gigs featuring Ghanian legend King Ayisoba, Zea and Sacred Paws (Platform, 10 Apr); and later in the year, Nectarine No. 9 and Casual Sex (Rutherglen Town Hall, 7 Jun); a showcase from cross-platform literary performance night Neu! Reekie! (Platform, 19 Jul); and an intimate gig featuring RM Hubbert and Richard Dawson (Rutherglen Town Hall, 8 Aug). There are also tea dances, a series of exclusive gigs as part of the Duke Street Expo on 31 May, and a dub and reggae showcase from Mungo's Hi-Fi at the Alexandra Park Gala Day on 21 June, with Tippa Irie and friends.

"We are immensely excited about playing Richmond Park this summer as part of the East End Social," commented Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite today. "It will be the biggest headline show we've done in Scotland to date. It's also great to be involved in the event as a whole in what will be a fantastic year for Scotland."

The concerts in August represent the pinnacle of the four-month lomg engagement project from Chemikal, which is part of the Culture 2014 programme. Mogwai's Rave Tapes is the band's most commercially successful album to date, peaking in the UK album charts at number 10 on its release. Here's our recent interview with Mogwai, in which Braithwaite and Barry Burns discuss the band's legacy, the independence referendum, and their formidable new album.
