What's on the Scandi-style menu at Norse?

Find beautiful Nordic-inspired eats at new Harrogate restaurant Norse

Originally housed in Harrogate's Baltzersen's cafe, Nordic-influenced restaurant Norse is now ready for its very own digs on Swan Road, launching officially to the public on Sat 8 Apr.

After success as a pop-up (which was met with a glowing report from national critic Jay Rayner, listings in the Good Food Guide and Michelin Guide, 2 AA rosettes and two runner up accolades in the Observer Food Monthly Awards) the restaurant concept took to Kickstarter to successfully raise extra funds for a permanent home of its own – a fundraising tactic that more and more people are taking to, as echoed with the recent openings of Gary Usher's Burnt Truffle, Hispi and the pending Liverpool site, Wreckfish.

Now able to hone the concept from a space that owner Paul Rawlinson and head chef Simon Jewitt can call their own, the new menu locally-sourced, fresh ingredients wherever possible, and is divided into 'smaller', 'larger' and 'dessert' dishes, along with snacks including homemade bread and herb butter and smoked cod roe crackers.

Celebrating the fresh flavours of Scandinavia, here it's less about hygge (don't even get us started) and more about refined, elegant cooking, with small plates such as hasselback potatoes with Keen's Cheddar and truffle or charred mackerel with chicory, pickled rhubarb and roe scraps.

Larger plates also sound promising, with combinations including celeriac baked in hay with sea vegetables, watercress and beer cream, duck breast and leg with fermented plum and salsify or yeast-glazed short rib of beer with Jansson's Temptations and greens.

Check out the full menu below, or have a scroll through the stunnning dishes in the gallery above.

You can also catch Norse at the Corn Exchange in Leeds as part of this year's Leeds Indie Food festival in May. More details on that here.
