Exciting times ahoy! It seems drinking beer at The Pilcrow, the long-awaited new pub from Cloudwater Brew Co. and the team behind Common, is no longer a pipe dream, as news hits that the venue will launch in late September.

Set in Sadler’s Yard – the city’s newest square at the heart of the NOMA neighbourhood – The Pilcrow is a community project that has been crafted by hand throughout the year by local volunteers, through a series of free workshops that have given people a chance to learn new skills and become part of the project's very foundations.

Aside from the base build of the structure, every single element of the pub has been handmade using traditional techniques and local labour, including everything from the glasses you'll sip from to the bell that will call last orders. We've had a sneak preview, and the result of this unique 'built by the people for the people' ethos is pretty stunning.

The pub is the first project from All Our Yesterdays, a new partnership between Jonathan Heyes – owner of Common and Port Street Beer House – and Paul Jones, co-founder of Cloudwater Brew Co.

Drinks-wise, it'll be a rotating list of seasonal beers from Cloudwater, alongside tailor-made beer brewed in a barrel created by volunteers at the White Rose Cooperage in Yorkshire.

Heyes said: “We’ve followed the development of The Pilcrow since planning was granted last year, and it’s an exciting opportunity for us to start our new venture somewhere with such a unique story.”

“It’s been a long run up to this and this is a significant moment for everyone involved in The Pilcrow,” said The Pilcrow’s Ben Young. “We’ve worked closely with Jonny and Paul on everything from the design of the bar to the beers on tap and the pub is going forward in the safest hands imaginable.”

The Pilcrow is currently slated to open on 22/23 September.
