New Food and Drink in Edinburgh

Wahaca

The Mexican food empire of 2005 Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers makes its first move into Scottish territory with a restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh. Expect the full gamut of street-style handheld delights, from tacos (the flat ones) to taquitos (the rolled-up ones) to tostadas (those crunchy ones you always end up getting everywhere), plus Mex-inspired main dishes and plenty of tequila. 16 South St Andrew St.

HOME

A new venture from the minds behind Maison Blueue and the Social Bite string of sandwich shops, HOME is a not-for-profit restaurant with a distinctly charitable angle. The restaurant will run a lunch service for the city's homeless population each Monday, members of Social Bite's academy training scheme will be employed at HOME, and the staff will help decide on the causes the restaurant will support. Top stuff. 7 Queensferry St.

New Food and Drink in Glasgow

Chompsky

The eclectic and multi-talented Chompsky food truck hit Kelvin Way earlier this month, after a string of pop-ups and an extensive back-and-forth to get the van – quite literally – on the road. Check out our look at Scotland's street food scene from this month's magazine, and head over to Chompsky's social media to see what's cooking. Kelvin Way, menu and opening times via Twitter

The Drugstore Social

A new venture from the team behind 2016 Food and Drink Survey winners Porter & Rye, Drugstore is a 'clean living'-inspired bar modelled after an old-school pharmacy. Behind the bar you'll find an eccentric list of cocktails both bottled and made-to-order, while the food menu features an outrageous range of brunch options, sharing platters and flatbreads. 67 Old Dumbarton Rd.

Crossing the Rubicon

From the team behind Edinburgh's V Deep, CTR serves up the same craft beer and curry combo as its east coast cousin. You'll find half-a-dozen resident beers from Drygate alongside a rotating cast of guest beers, while the food menu focuses on pub-friendly formats like pies and pots. Oh, and curry for breakfast. Can't believe we almost forgot that. 372 Great Western Rd.

Bread Meats Bread West End

BMB's second Glasgow branch takes some of Scotland's best burgers to the leafy climes of the West End. We can heartily recommend the In'n'Out-inspired mustard-fried Cali burger, and also that you wear a bib. Trust us. 701 Great Western Rd.
