Even the most cash-strapped among us might find that January doesn't have to be too dull: find out about where the best restaurant deals are, with Chaophraya, Busaba, Olive and others offering 50% off food in Liverpool

Chaophraya
50% off the a la carte or set menu (excludes Saturdays)
Fancy some fresh, fragrant Thai flavours for the new year? Head down to Chaophraya for prawn tom-yum, chicken satay, massaman lamb curry, papaya salad, steamed sea bass fillets and more – all of which sound even tastier with 50% off, which you can get by booking in advance and quote ‘CHAO PASS’.
Olive
50% off food (excluding Saturdays from 4pm)
Italian restaurant Olive is welcoming the new year in with 50% off food, which means you can let penne primavera, seabass with sundried tomato herb risotto, mozarella and tomato salad or a classic lasagne transport you to the warmer climes of the Mediterranean for a lot less than an Easyjet flight. Busaba
50% off food (excluding Fridays and Saturdays) and 99p menu sale on 16 January
Along with 50% off food, Busaba are also doing a 99p sale on 16 January (yep, allegedly the most depressing day of the year), when nine of the restaurant's main dishes will cost you UNDER A QUID. For that you'll have to pre-register here.
The Club House
50% off food (excludes Saturdays)
The Club House in Liverpool One will be serving up their deli boards, pies, sandwiches, hanging kebabs, salads and more – all with a January-friendly 50% knocked off the price. Book via the website.
The Alchemist
50% off food (excludes Fridays after 5pm and all day Saturdays)
The Brunswick Street restaurant will be doing the January deal thing this year, offering 50% off the food bill. Along with globetrotting mains like jerk chicken, ramen, fajitas and chicken katsu curry, the offer also covers the ‘tapatisers’ menu of box-ticking small plates – nachos, Thai fish cakes, chicken wings, duck spring rolls and the like. Gusto
50% off food (excluding Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm)
Half price grub can also be found at Gusto – which means deli boards for around £4, spaghetti carbonara for a fiver, and slow-cooked pork belly for just over £7. Simply book in advance online to get in on the action.
The Bastion
50% off food (excluding Fridays and Saturdays)
With sharing boards, classic starters (homemade Scotch egg, beetroot and gin cured salmon and seasonal soup of the day to name just a few) and mains including braised ox cheek hot pot and pan-fried salmon fillet, the restaurant at the football-themed Shankly Hotel will be offering 50% off food across its a la carte menu.
