Game of Thrones pop-up bar to open in Edinburgh

The new pop-up is inspired by George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones books and the bloody HBO TV show

Ever sit at home watching Game of Thrones and think 'that tavern Arya Stark and The Hound are hiding out in looks right cosy'? Or do you simply think 'I’d love a goblet of whatever Tyrion Lannister is getting sozzled on right now'? If so, you’re in luck, because a new Game of Thrones-inspired pop up bar is coming to Edinburgh in the new year.

Named Blood & Wine, the bar aims to bring a little bit of Westeros to Auld Reekie. “Our menu consists entirely of drinks mentioned, drunk, thrown or poisoned in the novels or the show,” boasts the press release. I’d avoid having what Joffrey Baratheon is having in that case.

Winter is coming (actually, it’s already here), so Blood & Wine promises a toasty warm tavern in which you can partake in a little meat and mead – just pray to the Seven that your head stays firmly on your shoulders.

In the new year, you’ll find the bar located in the cellar below Daylight Robbery bar on Dublin Street and it will be open every Wednesday and Thursday evening from 5pm throughout January. In fact, it's been such a success that the pop-up's initial run has been extended throughout February, with 23 February the final day to grab your slice of Westeros in Auld Reekie.

(The location, incidentally, has a colourful history of its own that isn’t a million miles away from the kind of shenanigans one might encounter in Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish’s King’s Landing establishment – but that’s a different story, and I’m sure they’ll have scrubbed the walls down.)

The bar is being run by The Pop Up Geeks, and we’re told this is just the first in a line of exciting pop ups the company plans for Edinburgh in the near future.
