May already?! We know, we know. Luckily, this month is jam-packed with new openings, supper clubs, a meat-free celebration and the launch of a new coffee table book on, well… coffee.

Trove put down roots in Altrincham Market

Regular readers (hi mum!) will remember that the folks behind Manchester’s Trove had big plans brewing a few months back. This month, all is revealed with the opening of a brand-new unit at Altrincham Market’s New Market Square. The space has all the clean, curated feel of the Levenshulme HQ, and gives market-dwellers a chance to sample coffee, cakes and light bites in addition to the café’s signature sourdough. To celebrate, they’re teaming up with neighbours National 7 and Güd Vegan for an evening of food, music, coffee and alcohol on 7 May, 7pm-late. New Market Square, Altrincham, @trovefoods

‘Free From’ menu at 1847

Meat free? Dairy free? Gluten free? Then Manchester’s 1847 has got your back. To celebrate National Vegetarian Week (16-22 May), they’re launching a one-off ‘Free From’ menu that seeks to highlight just how good life with a dietary requirement can be. Highlights include a wild garlic gnocchi with nettle pesto, and an Earl Grey tea crème caramel with biscotti. 58 Mosley Street, Manchester, 16-22 May, @By1847

Fil Fil Falafel x North Tea Power

After the runaway success of their last hook-up, vegan-friendly street foodies Fil Fil Falafel and North Tea Power are back at it this month. This time around, it’s more of a collaborative menu vibe than an all-out supper club, with Fil Fil curating a menu of Middle Eastern-inspired small plates that diners can choose from. Bring some mates, share some plates, have a good time. 36 Tib Street, Manchester, 6 May, 7-10.30pm, @northteapower, @filfilfalafel

Coffee Shop: North book launch

Call us biased, but the North is home to the most thriving independent coffee scene in the country. It’s a fact not lost on Dan Saul Pilgrim, the curator behind the book Coffee Shop: North. Featuring essays, insights and browse-worthy photography, the book seeks to explore the stories of shops, roasters and baristas across eight northern cities and towns. The launch will be accompanied with an exhibition of portraits by Justin Slee of some of the scene’s most well-known faces, plus some spreads from the book. Colours May Vary, Munro House, Duke Street, Leeds, 26 May, 6-9pm, @CoffeeShopNorth
