Ten Great Late Night Spots in Liverpool

Liverpool’s wild nightlife is legendary, but sometimes you’re not after a mad one. The middle ground between late night drinks and dancing till 5am can be hard to come by, though. With this in mind, here’s our guide to Liverpool's best late night spots...

It’s the same old story. You’re out with friends enjoying drinks and bants, but then you hear the dreaded bell for last orders. What do you do? Call it a night or get your dancing shoes on? Either way your chilled-out night is coming to an end.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though. Liverpool has plenty of pubs that don’t pull down the shutters or crank up the techno. There are even the odd spots where you can grab a post-midnight snack…

Late night drinking in Liverpool

The Jacaranda

21-23 Slater St

Famously the site of the Beatles’ debut gig, the legendary Jac is a haven for music lovers and a key venue in Liverpool’s grassroots music scene, with low-key gigs and open mics every night of the week. Shaggy and unpretentious, its bar is the perfect spot for late night drinks with friends… until you’re kicked downstairs to the club around 2am that is, but by then you should be in the mood for dancing.

Open till 6am Thu-Sun; 2am Mon-Wed

Santa Chupitos

41 Slater St

Santa Chupitos surroundings may be rustic but the atmosphere is top-notch. Out back you’ll find a smoking area perfect for late night chats, while its cocktails are among the best in town. If you’d prefer a relaxed dungeon vibe, there’s El Bandito downstairs.

Open till 4am Fri & Sat; 3am Sun; 2am Mon-Fri

Berry & Rye

48 Berry St

Tucked away amid an array of trinket stores and noodle bars on Berry Street you’ll find an unassuming black shop front. Knock on the door and a broad-shouldered man will appear from behind a curtain, look you up and down, and if you’re looking reasonably respectable you’ll be allowed inside the snug table service bar. Expect tasty cocktails, fine whiskies and intimate live piano. You’ll also find some fine cheese and meat boards and a selection of nibbles too.

Open till 3am Fri & Sat; 2am Mon-Thu; 1am Sun

Kabinett

5 Myrtle St

If you’re in the mood for late-night wine with friends, Kabinett is for you. The bar is warm and inviting, with its exposed brickwork, wooden fixtures and comfy leather sofas. It’s perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon tipple, but works just as well for a relaxed finish to a night out. On top of the lovely wines, Kabinett serves up moreish cheese boards and live music. At the weekend, you’ll find plenty of places in Liverpool open later, but if you’re looking for somewhere for a cheeky late one on a school night, Kabinett has you sorted.

Open till 12am Mon-Sun

The Baltic Social

25 Parliament St

Situated in the heart of Liverpool's Baltic Triangle, the Baltic is well-loved for its laidback atmosphere and great live music schedule; it’s the beating heart of this once-barren, now culturally rich area of the city. The decor is pleasingly bohemian, what with its brightly coloured doors adorning the walls and its upcycled furnishings. Throughout the week, the vibe is much more hip cafe than bar, but things get more lively at the weekends. And if you stay out late on Saturday night, the bar has the perfect hangover cure for you the following day: the best Sunday roast in town.

Open till 2am Fri & Sat; 11pm Mon-Thu; 8pm Sun

Black Lodge

4 Kitchen St

Quickly becoming another Baltic Triangle fave, Black Lodge is a craft beer bar par excellence, with some of its supply brewed out back – the only place you’ll find those great guest beers is here. As well as the amazing beer, Black Lodge hosts band nights and offers up a great deli selection of cheeseboards and meats hand-picked by the staff. The bar itself isn’t exactly cosy – with its concrete floors and tiled walls it’s staying true to the Baltic Triangle’s industrial roots – but its late-night atmosphere is extremely welcoming.

Open till 1am Fri & Sat; 12am Thu; 11pm Sun

Some Place

43 Seel St

Some Place is an Absinth bar. OK, a venue specialising in the green stuff might sound like a den of debauchery, but Absinthe virgins should keep an open mind. This sleek bar offers one of the most unique atmospheres in the city. To find it, look out for the green light on Seel Street by Zanzibar. Some Place doesn’t exactly keep regular hours – your best guide is that if the green light is on, it’s open. And when it opens, it opens late.

Late Night Dining in Liverpool

Mamos

43 Bold St

This recently opened, brightly decorated takeaway – a night owl-friendly sibling to the original Mamos on Rose Street – is heaven sent for those looking for something wholesome to top off their night of excess. “Simple, honest and delicious” is the Mamos moto and that’s exactly what you get. Expect charcoal-cooked Peri Peri Chicken, Napolese style pizzas and homemade falafel freshly prepared and served ridiculously late.

Open till 5am Fri & Sat; 2am Sun-Thu

American Pizza Slice

122 Bold St

This sharp little parlour feels like a fifth avenue pizza joint dropped on to Bold Street. While the pizza bases are made in the traditional Little Italy style, the toppings are pleasingly eccentric (pulled pork pizza, anyone?). Rumour has it that customers who challenge the pizzeria staff to a game of rock, paper, scissors and win walk off with their slice for free. In bocca al lupo.

Open till 2am Fri & Sat; 11.30pm Sun-Thu

Chilli Chilli

20 Nelson St

A Liverpool Chinatown institution, Chilli Chilli delivers everything great Chinese food should be. It's fast, fresh and full of authentic flavours – and they’ll happily serve you up a banquet past midnight.

Open till 2am Mon-Sun
