Sunday roasts in the Georgian Quarter

The Blackburne Pub & Eatery

24 Catharine St | @TheBlackburne

A favourite in The Skinny office, this top spot for hearty pub grub offers up king-sized dinners every Sunday. Their signature roasts are made using chicken supreme, not fillets. The other regular is delicious sirloin of beef – much more flavoursome than topside. The specials are on rotation, from moist roast pork and crispy crackling to rich leg of lamb with mint sauce – there’s even venison and duck on occasion. The ingredients are the best: fresh and locally sourced. Booking recommended.

Frederiks

32 Hope St | @FrederiksHopeSt

With its exposed brick decor and cosy seating arrangements, Fredericks emits a laid-back vibe, perfect for Sunday lunch. The menu changes regularly, but expect the very best slow-cooked and succulent meats. You can also enjoy live music from a range of invited musicians for their 'Roast & Records' sessions.

The Clove Hitch

23 Hope St | @theclovehitch

Another Hope Street gem, this bar and bistro has established itself as one of Liverpool’s top eateries, and they keep up the quality right through to Sunday with their roast dinners. It all comes swimming in homemade gravy – obvs. Two courses for £17.50; three courses for £22.

Sunday roasts near Liverpool city centre

The Brink

15-21 Parr St | @BrinkLiverpool

This ace community dry bar is the perfect spot for a chilled out Sunday roast. The portions are massive. The afternoon teas on the Brink’s ‘Lazy Sunday’ menu are pretty special too. All the food is prepared fresh and sourced from local artisan suppliers. Not only is the food great, but by eating here you’re supporting a great cause, as profits are fed back into the community to help those who have suffered through alcoholism and addiction.

Sunday roasts in the Baltic Triangle

Camp & Furnace

67 Greenland St | @CampandFurnace

Do you like to carve your own meat? Camp & Furnace’s take on the Sunday roast is for you then. The setup is gloriously communal: tables and benches stretching across the humongous warehouse are topped with lines of whole, juicy, corn-fed roast chickens whose meat just falls off the bone. This is Sunday roast as a shared experience: breaking bread and pulling wishbones with friends and strangers alike. You can’t just rock up on a Sunday at noon – these sessions are booking only, and they fill up quick.

The Baltic Social

27 Parliament St | @thebalticsocial

Throughout the week you’ll find Liverpool’s musicians, artists, designers and all-round creative types lounging upon The Baltic Social’s leather Chesterfield sofas. You’ll also find them flocking here in droves come Sundays for the venue’s superior roast dinners. Expect the usual succulent meats, rich gravy and fluffy Yorkshires, with some added twists – celeriac mash is a favourite side here. Non-meat eaters also rave about the cashew and veggie roast. It gets busy – be sure to book ahead if you're coming along this Sunday!

Sunday roasts out of town

The Moon & Pea

64 Lark Ln | @themoonandpea

With its cosy decor that manages to be both casual and chic, The Moon & Pea is a great place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Beef and lamb are always on the menu, while non-meat eaters can opt for one of their delicious pies, which change daily. Thankfully there’s no venison on the menu – the stag’s head that stands sentinel over the dining room might not approve.
