The first trailer for new documentary Where You're Meant To Be, starring former Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat, has been released ahead of its world premiere at Glasgow Film Festival.

The Paul Fegan-directed film started life as a document of Moffat's road trip across Scotland in the spring of 2014, performing modern re-interpretations of Scottish folk classics to crowds across the country with a band featuring members of The Twilight Sad and Bdy_Prts. However, following a meeting with folk balladeer Sheila Stewart, the documentary changed shape to mark a journey through Scottish music and take a closer look at Moffat and Stewart, who passed away in late 2014 at the age of 79.

Describing the film, Moffat writes: "Originally, I wasn’t even supposed to be in the film all that much, which is why I agreed to it. But somehow I ended up dressed in chainmail and dry-suits, lugging around a fake Nessie hump, and being scolded by a septuagenarian folk legend in an extremely confined space. It was meeting the formidable Sheila Stewart that set the new course for the film; but we met some other brilliant folk along the way, ending up with what I hope is a fun film on legacy and tradition in Scotland today. And, for a film about death, it’s pretty funny.”

Earlier this week, Glasgow Film Festival announced that Where You're Meant To Be's world premiere will take place at the Glasgow Barrowlands in February, as part of the festival's site-specific cinema programme. For the premiere, Moffat will bring together a host of musicians from across Scotland for a gig following the film's screening.

Where You're Meant To Be's world premiere is at the Barrowlands in Glasgow on 20 February 2016; tickets are on sale now via the Glasgow Film Festival website.
