First look at Alex Garland's Natalie Portman-starring sci-fi
In the first trailer for Annihilation – the much-anticipated new film from Ex Machina director Alex Garland – Natalie Portman is looking for answers to what happened to her husband
“Why did my husband volunteer for a suicide mission?” So asks Natalie Portman's character in the trailer for Annihilation, the new sci-fi film from Ex Machina director Alex Garland, which has gone straight on to our most anticipated films of 2018 list.
Based on the horror novel by Jeff VanderMeer, the film looks like a mix between Contact and Predator. In the trailer we see Natalie Portman’s character visit a strange landscape and sees some alien looking flora and fauna. We also see her being interrogated about a creature she encountered on her visit to this strange place, but she’s struggling to articulate what she saw there.
As well as Portman, Annihilation's cast also includes Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Gyasi and Oscar Isaac, who gave a knockout performance in Garland's debut film as director, Ex Machina.
