Retrotastic Netflix show Stranger Things will return to the streaming site with Season Two on 27 October – just in time to creep you out for Halloween.

Set in 1984, the sci-fi/horror/kids' adventure hybrid follows a group of geeky pre-teens in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, who discover another dimension called the Upside Down when one of their friends, Will Byers, is kidnaped by a terrifying creature that they dub the Demogorgon.

If the first series had you hiding behind a cushion on your sofa, things will get even more terrifying in season two, says Stranger Things’ executive producer Shawn Levy. "The threats to Hawkins and to our characters are bigger, darker, often times scarier this season," Levy told The Hollywood Reporter. And this is confirmed by the new poster for the show published online today, which shows a huge creature moving towards Hawkins' town limits.

Netflix also revealed a mini synopsis for Season Two, which confirms there’s something bigger and scarier than the Demogorgon on its way in these new episodes: "It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived."

As well as a new monster, there’ll be some new cast members this season too, including Sean Astin, who reportedly gets close to Winona Ryder's character Joyce Byers, and brother-sister duo played by Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery, who shake up the dynamics between the younger characters.
