Flying Lotus’ debut film hailed as “grossest ever”

Kuso, the first feature film from Flying Lotus, causes mass walkout during its premiere at Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Film Festival, the home of gentle, feel-good indie films and righteous documentaries, has reportedly been hit with “the grossest movie ever made”. According to The Verge, Kuso, the debut film from artist and musician Steven Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, is so offensive that its premiere in Sundance was accompanied by a steady stream of walkouts. “Some gross-out films are one-note,” writes the reviewer, “but Kuso finds new ways to test viewers’ fortitude.”

The film is set in LA in the aftermath of an earthquake and follows the mutated survivors living in the rubble. To give you an idea of what to expect, the fragmented film features such delightful antics as a man having sex with a talking boil on a woman's neck, an erect penis being stabbed, a fetus being ripped from its mother’s womb and smoked by an alien, and a doctor treating a patient using a medicinal cockroach that lives in his anus.

That doctor is played by Parliament-Funkadelic’s George Clinton, while new music featured in the film comes from Aphex Twin, Thundercat and FlyLo himself.

You can get a flavour of the carnage Ellison has cooked up in the trailer below; if you're feeling brave, you can catch Kuso at Glasgow Film Festival on Fri 24 Feb at 8.45pm.
