Watch a Where You're Meant to Be deleted scene

Watch Aidan Moffat at his foul-mouthed best as he prepares to give a performance at the Faslane peace camp in a scene that didn't make it into Where You're Meant to Be, Paul Fegan's funny and sweet folk music doc

When we interviewed Aidan Moffat earlier this year about his linchpin role in Paul Fegan’s evocative new documentary Where You're Meant to Be he told us, “I wasn’t even supposed to be in it that much to begin with.” We’re glad he was. As you can see from a deleted scene from the film above, which show’s Moffat preparing to perform in front of the Faslane peace camp, his ramshackle charm and bone-dry wit play a huge part in the film’s success.

Fegan’s doc – part travelogue, part concert movie – sees the former Arab Strap frontman take a quixotic tour of Scotland, stopping off in several locations to perform his bawdy updates of traditional folk songs and to meet the various characters keeping this storytelling tradition alive.

“The plan was that the tour was something to hang stories around,” said Moffat. “Me playing in certain places, and we’d find a story to tell. But as time went on we became more intimate with the people involved – especially Sheila Stewart.” Given that these songs are in her blood, Stewart doesn’t take too kindly to Moffat’s wry interpretations of the ballads she’s been singing all her life. Their fiery clash of sensibilities is one of the film’s many highlights.

Where You're Meant to Be is released on DVD 28 Oct and available to purchase at whereyouremeanttobe.com, as well as all the usual outlets (FOPP, Amazon, etc).
