Warrior King

Where's my elephant?

Film Review by Paul Greenwood | 15 Jul 2006
Film title: Warrior King
Director: Prachya Pinkaew
Starring: Tony Jaa
Certificate: 15tbc

The entire storyline of 'Warrior King' can be more than adequately summarised in the immortal words of one Bartholomew J Simpson: "Where's my elephant?" Thai martial arts superstar Tony Jaa searches for his stolen pachyderm pal in Sydney while asking the question repeatedly, although never more hilariously than when he's standing next to one. Any argument that the story doesn't matter because the action is so good just isn't valid - sure, Jaa is stunningly athletic and can crack skulls with the best of them (one extended fight scene, shot in one unbroken take up a set of stairways is truly astonishing), but if you thought the entertaining 'Ong Bak' was poorly plotted then prepare to be dumbfounded by incomprehensible narrative and characterisation, not to mention atrocious acting and dialogue that would have been embarrassing in the '70s.
