Lemming

Very controlled, but develops in unconvincing ways and becomes confusing.

Film title: Lemming
Director: Dominik Moll
Starring: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling

No, not another computer game adaptation, instead it's an offbeat film directed by Dominik Moll, who had a sizable international hit with 'Harry, He's Here to Help'. 'Lemming' is unlikely to be as successful, though it's not without interest. A young French couple's relationship starts disintegrating after they find a Lemming blocking the sink the night the husband's boss comes for dinner. Events go downhill from here, and at first the film is simultaneously comic and suspenseful. But Moll's execution is better than his imagination - the film is very controlled, but develops in unconvincing ways and becomes confusing. It's different from the norm and because it's well made many will find it intriguing, but equal numbers will find it irritating. [Keir Hind]

This film is released on April 28.
