16 Blocks

A formulaic yet enjoyable buddy flick in heavy traffic.

Film Review by J. Spruston | 16 Apr 2006
Film title: 16 Blocks
Director: Richard Donner
Starring: Bruce Willis, Mos Def
A tight, thrilling, "almost-real-time" action flick depicting just how deadly a walk down the street can be. Bruce Willis stars as Jack Mosley, a burnt-out, alcoholic NYPD detective escorting Eddie Bunker (Mos Def), a witness in a case against the NY police force, down to the court house 16
blocks away. However, when an attempt on Eddie's life is made, Mosley must decide which side of the street to walk on. A formulaic yet enjoyable buddy flick in heavy traffic ensues. No surprises from Willis here as the aging cop with a conscience, and Def demonstrates his versatility nicely as
the street savvy witness. Well worth the trip. [M. Garriock/J. Spruston]
