The Edinburgh International Film Festival is set for a new artistic director, with veteran film critic and programmer Mark Adams taking on the role.

Adams, a former Head of Programming at the National Film Theatre in London and Chief Film Critic at trade magazine Screen International, replaces Chris Fujiwara, who stepped down in September following three years at the helm of the festival.

Adams will take on the post from March next year, and will be involved in selecting films for the 2015 festival alongside EIFF’s Deputy Artistic Director Diane Henderson, who has led programming in the interim following Fujiwara’s departure. This year's EIFF programme featured screenings of Bong Joon-ho’s dystopian sci-fi Snowpiercer and Jim Mickle's dark noir Cold in July as well as a series of 'Hero Hangout' events featuring Simon Helberg and Elijah Wood among others – watch our interview with Wood at EIFF 2014 in the player below.

Work has already begun on next year’s festival, with a ‘Doc of the Day’ strand featuring daily screenings of feature-length documentaries, with accompanying events and discussions, already confirmed. The 2015 Edinburgh International Film Festival – the 69th in the event’s history – takes place at venues across the city on 17-28 June 2015.

Earlier this month, the Glasgow Film Festival announced the first tranche of events for its 2015 programme, including a two-day mini-festival dedicated to cat videos, and a one-off event celebrating the cinematic past of the O2 ABC gig venue featuring eagleowl and British Sea Power.
