Stay Fresh Fest: A new festival for Manchester

Feature by News Team | 11 Aug 2016

Manchester gets a new festival this September, as The Deaf Institute and The Skinny present Stay Fresh Fest, two stages of some of the most vital new music in the North.

Stay Fresh Fest will turn the Deaf Institute into one big jamboree on 24 September, with performances in the main bar as well as the upstairs music hall, plus DJs, food and drinks offers and more.

We're super excited about the bill! Leeds' premier 'over-stimulated indie rock' band Cowtown and Glasgow's pop-happy Catholic Action are joined by a clutch of great Manchester artists – Shaking Chains, Francis Lung, Kyotoya and Ethan & The Reformation – plus the formidable Pink Kink (Liverpool) and top indie-pop trio from Chester, Peaness.

This has been an exciting year for all of the acts. About to release their new album Paranormal Romance, Cowtown are currently on tour in the US with odd-rock legends Deerhoof, and Pink Kink have been turning heads in Liverpool and beyond with packed-to-the-rafters gigs before they've even put any music online; they're a true word-of-mouth wonder.

Peaness have put out a 7" on Canadian label Kingfisher Bluez (and you can check out their ode to – or against – George Osborne here), and Francis Lung has been touring the UK and France.

Catholic Action have had a prolific couple of years since they first formed; Louder Than War proclaimed Shaking Chains 'Manchester's best kept secret' earlier this year; Kyotoya are impressing with their recent clutch of songs, having played their debut gig as recently as April, and Ethan & The Reformation have been getting lots of love for their first single, Hollandia.

Here's the awesome poster:

Tickets are just £6 advance (with a limited number of early birds for £4) and are on sale now, here. Keep an eye on theskinny.co.uk/music, where we'll be chatting with the artists and revealing more goodies on the run-up to the festival!
