The Red Bull Music Academy tour comes to Liverpool for the first time in October with a mini-festival of music and club nights, with guests including Jamie Woon, Moodymann, Krept and Konan, Kenny Dope, Hunee, Greg Wilson and Young Marco. To mark the occasion, RBMA have commissioned a mural for one of Liverpool’s trendiest spots from local graffiti artist Dead.

Over the last two days, the artist (real name Andy Prior) has been hard at work on a wall adjacent to Ropewalks Square, just off Bold Street, where he’s been creating his large scale artwork. The resulting mural can be seen below.

A graffiti artist for over 20 years, Dead has been developing a number of styles and continuously pushing the direction of his art towards an intuitive, direct connection to what he creates. He’s known for “producing intricate and complex letter forms with an organic but futuristic vibe,” but the bold piece he’s created for Ropewalks Square is more illustrative, showing a vibrant skull made up of psychotronic purples, electric greens and acid yellows.

The RBMA tour kicks off with the Liverpool leg on 6 Oct before taking in Glasgow (13-16 Oct), London (19-23 Oct) and Leeds (27-30 Oct). For more details, check out our preview of the RBMA tour and read our piece on the RBMA new exhibition in Leeds capturing the energy and urgency of grime.
