Liverpool Sound City announce first bands for 2016

Sleaford Mods and Young Fathers are among the initial clutch of artists to join the bill for next year's Liverpool Sound City festival.

Sleaford Mods join the Sound City line-up ahead of screenings of new documentary Invisible Britain, charting the band's UK tour ahead of this year's general election. Read our 2014 interview with Sleaford Mods frontman Jason Williamson.

Edinburgh trio Young Fathers will kick off 2016 with a European tour supporting returning trip-hop icons Massive Attack – read our five-star review of Young Fathers' White Men Are Black Men TooCirca Waves – confirmed for next year's Live at Leeds festival earlier this month – have also been announced for the 2016 festival, along with The Dandy Warhols and Band of Skulls. Sound City 2016's final night will be headlined by The Coral.

Liverpool Sound City takes place on 28 & 29 May 2016; tickets go on sale on Fri 27 Nov at 9am. Sleaford Mods: Invisible Britain screens at Hyde Park Picture House, Leeds and Liverpool FACT on 12 & 13 Dec, before a screening at Glasgow's CCA on 30 January.
