Knockengorroch World Ceilidh 2011

If you haven’t already taken in the eclectic charms of Knockengorroch’s (hopefully) sun-soaked journey through world music, this year would be a good time to start. Roots reggae legend and sometime Massive Attack alum Horace Andy and Dub Asante will bring a roots flavour to the day’s proceedings, while honorary punks Adrian Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds will add a dash of oi snottiness (albeit in a folk stylee). Praise be to experimental wunderkinds and recent Skinny cover stars Found, who’ll no doubt be presenting a set to remember, though it’s unlikely indie pop mainstays Aberfeldy or the inimitable DJ Yoda are going to be slacking off either.

For those desiring a more adrenalised listen, a rare appearance by Austrian-Baltic ska troupe Russkaja will keep feet moving and vodka flowing, and Salsa Celtica can be counted upon to rock collective socks with latino fire. Chuck in Kris Drever’s critically lauded Lau, the world-spanning rhythms of the near-indescribable Future Trad Collective and a touch of cinematic drama from Hidden Orchestra and you’ll begin to see what you’ve been missing out on. But it's not all music; there'll also be a hefty selection of ales, crafts, fire performances, saunas and everything else required for a doozy of a weekend. Oh, and did we mention that it's one of the most absurdly friendly festivals of the year? Well, now we have.
