The inaugural edition of bluedot festival, which takes place at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre in Manchester over the weekend of 22-24 July, has revealed a number of new names on the line-up.

Live acts Beth OrtonThe Membranes, NZCA Lines and I Like Trains will all play the multi-arts festival, as well as DJs Steve Davis, Unabombers and DJ Cheeba. They join a bill that already includes a UK festival exclusive performance from Jean-Michel Jarre, a new projection art work by Brian Eno to be displayed on the Lovell Telescope, headline sets from Underworld and Caribou, and a live collaboration between Kev Bales of Spiritualized and 40,000 bees (!).

Orton will be appearing off the back of her acclaimed new record, Kidsticks, produced by Fuck Buttons Andrew Hung (read our chat with him about the experience here), while post-punk outfit The Membranes will be presenting a festival first – a play-through of their album Dark Matter/Dark Energy with a 25-piece choir.

And you may be surprised to see the name Steve Davis on there – yes, he's the six-time World Snooker Champion, but he's also now a techno DJ known as DJ Thundermuscle...

Another addition to the bill is Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess, who will appear in discussion with BBC Radio 6 Music's Shaun Keaveny to talk about his new book, Tim Book Two. Stephen Morris of New Order will also be taking part in an 'in conversation' event.

A number of great regional acts have been announced, including Skinny favourites worriedaboutsatan and Bernard + Edith, plus two acts that recently wowed us at Sounds from the Other City festival: Pumarosa and The Big Moon

But bluedot festival isn't just about music. It also programmes a mix of artists, speakers, scientists and performers across several distinct arenas. For example, the schedule includes a celebration of sci-f author Alan Garner, who will make a rare appearance to sign books; a vibrant comedy bill including tech-whizzes Foxdog Studios; physical theatre, and even a seven-course meal devised by chef Aiden Byrne.

Tickets are on sale now. Full weekend camping (from £129) and day tickets (from £35) are available.
