Dream Teams on the Silver Screen

Traditionally Glasgow Film Festival’s retrospective focuses in on a single star from Hollywood’s Golden Age (John Wayne, Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant have been some of the actors celebrated), but this year GFF will be paying tribute to the silver screen's great double acts. Expect to see films featuring the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, and Hollywood’s first bromance Robert Redford and Paul Newman in the programme.

“Chemistry is everything when it comes to creating the perfect screen couple,” says GFF co-director Allan Hunter. “When audiences sense that electricity they want to see it again and again. Dream Teams on the Silver Screen celebrates the very finest Hollywood duos, individuals who made cinema history together in unforgettable classics.”

Argentinian cinema celebrated

The explosion of great cinema emanating from South America will have been evident to anyone who’s made it along to recent Glasgow Film Festivals. The cinema of Chile was the country of focus two years ago, while Argentinian film Wild Tales was one of the hits of last year’s festival. GFF will be digging up some more great cinematic gems from Argentina with new strand Roads to the South.

GFF's new industry focus

A major development in Glasgow Film Festival’s ethos is the introduction of a film industry programme called GFF Industry Focus. Up until now, GFF's programmes have been designed solely for the paying public, but for two days (24-25 February) GFF Industry Focus will bring together international filmmakers, funding bodies and industry insiders for a film industry seminar.

Festival co-director Allison Gardner had this to say about the new industry strand: “While GFF’s programme will always put audiences front and centre, we are delighted to be able to host something like GFF Industry Focus this year. Bringing this sort of industry presence to Scotland will hopefully feed into and strengthen the Scottish film industry, creating connections and opportunities, and offering international insight.”
