Inverness – Re-Imagining the Centre

Preview by Adeline Amar | 09 Sep 2009

For the next five days, Inverness will host more than 20 artists from all over the UK, including some of its finest local talent. In a new version of the 2006 public art event Imagining the Centre, the Old Town will be turned into a multi-dimensional artistic space featuring sculptures, street art, music and a sequence of special events on the streets of Inverness.

Not to be missed, the project In Honour of September will be the highlight of the event, led by graffiti artists DUFI and street artists Richie Cumming, Mike Inglis, Kirsty Whiten and Martin McGuiness. Recently praised by the critics and public alike for their contribution to Rough Cut Nation, they will take over empty shop units and city facades, while inviting the passers-by to watch them work on the street. Other artists, including Neville Gabie, collective GANGHUT, Abiab, Ginny Hutchison, Brian MacBeath, Dave Martin and Sundogs, will join them to celebrate the Highland Capital’s Old Town as an open air venue. Expect live music, red yarn projects and bizarre wooden structures to encourage public participation and interaction and prove, once again, that art is in no way limited to the enclosed spaces of galleries.
