Before The Skinny could give it the preview it deserves, Glasgow Comic Con has put up the foreclosure on tickets with a big sign “CON tickets are now SOLD OUT.” With two weeks still to go before the Con takes place, Sat 18 June, this first event of its kind for 15 years has obviously been hotly anticipated.
The event will take place at the slightly un-Con-esque Mackintosh Church, Arts & Heritage Centre and will feature talks, signings, sketches, workshops, panels, art exhibition, COSPLAY, Indy publishers, as well as Comic books, toys, graphic novels, novelty and specialist dealers. Guests will include home town hero and Kick Ass scribe Mark Millar, All-Star Superman artist Frank Quitely, V for Vendetta artist David Lloyd and other industry names.
Why tell you about a sold out event? Well, for those with an optimistic disposition there is always the reserve tickets list on which you can place yourselves simply by calling 0141 946 6600 and expressing your interest (crying manically probably won’t help). This also includes a reserve list for the exclusive comic book awards part (just 60 tickets issued) which takes place on the eve of the Con. This is a VIP party, with special guests, a DJ and fully stocked bar all in celebration of the first Annual Scottish independent Comic Book Awards.
However, if you hold no hope of getting a ticket on the reserve list, Glasgow Comic Con is preceded by the Glasgow Comic Con Festival – a week of free events and film screenings in conjunction with the The Mackintosh Church and Glasgow Film Theatre (booking essential). They might not be the real thing, but they still offer a glimmer of hope at getting your comic book fix at this industry showcase.
