Glasgow Comedy Festival Blog - Friday Night Will (hopefully) Be Alright
It’s Friday midway through the festival and as ever you could watch comedy from dawn to dusk (almost).
For me, this week has been quietish. I even had Monday and Tuesday off which I of course spent writing new material. Well nearly – I am re-watching Peep Show and got to the end of series 4. Which is fairly exhausting, so I had to sleep a lot to get over it. On Wednesday I went to see my first show of the festival performed by the lovely Siân Bevan. It was a cracking show and made me a bit frightened for tonight when I have to do the same thing. I found out earlier in the week that my solo show is sold out, which takes the pressure off selling tickets but then made me poo myself a little bit about actually doing it.
It’s an all new show so there is a distinct possibility that none of it will work. I have a certain amount of faith in my own ability to notice when things aren’t funny, but then again history might call me a liar. For example, there is a bit in the show that made me laugh like a complete loon, it is genuinely the funniest thing I have ever thought of. I told my girlfriend and realised that perhaps it is only me that finds it funny. I’ll try it tonight anyway. Maybe I just need to sell it better.
Anyway, I spent last night at the BBC recording a pilot for a new panel show thingy about the world’s best sitcom. It was good fun although I managed to annoy Jo Neary which is like kicking a puppy. A puppy who could then intellectually kick your arse from here to next Tuesday. She was defending Reggie Perrin and really really loves the programme. Like loves it. She had a huge notebook on it and books and everything. Apparently I was making faces when they were showing the Reggie Perrin clips. And you know what – I was. I apologised to her and she said she forgave me but I suspect forever she will hate me. And that makes me the worst person in the world ever. Jo Neary should never be upset, ever. If I get hit by a bus today it will be god quite rightly punishing me for my behaviour.
To add insult to injury I ended up kissing my team mate who was a very hairy man. I woke up this morning with what looks like a hideous sexual disease around my mouth but I think is just stubble burn. I also managed to kiss the wonderful Wendy Wason who is in town to present a show tomorrow. So essentially I covered all bases in the sexual spectrum. I am unsure if my girlfriend was happy when I arrived home with lipstick all over my face and a stubble rash but never mind – it’s all part of the job.
Anywho, after my own show I am back at the BBC Saturday MC’ing the BBC presents show – the line up includes Kevin Bridges and other great comics so if there are tickets available you should come along. Then on Sunday (after Mother’s Day duties) I am on at Lemon Custard which is a gorgeous gig at Brel in the afternoon.
Whatever you do make sure you get out and watch some comedy in Glasgow if you can.
