Threshold Festival doesn’t rest on its laurels. Next year, the multi-arts grassroots festival will return to Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle for three days of music, arts and theatre. Despite being in its seventh year, however, Threshold director Kaya Herstad-Carney assures us it’ll look and feel mint fresh. "We have a tradition of always making adjustments to our look,” she says, “sometimes because of a change of lead designer but more importantly to respond to our theme and current passions and artistic direction.”

In general, these visual metamorphoses tend to happen every couple of years, Herstad-Carney tells us, and the 2017 edition will see another major change: “This year sees us explore a more photographic and monochrome style of imagery in line with our 2017 theme 'Darkness & Light'.”

The 'Darkness & Light' theme takes inspiration from the festival's home within the Baltic Triangle and its cauldron of reclaimed warehouses that now bubble with creativity all year round. “The design [this year] has more nuance,” says Herstad-Carney, “and a real sense of inspiration from past and present histories in our venues and area."

Threshold 2017 will take place 31 Mar–2 Apr at various venues within Liverpool's Baltic Triangle. Bands and solo artists are encouraged to apply to take part in Threshold 2017 via the form here
