Who's Your Daddy @ Assembly Hall

The premise of the Who's Your Daddy promises to be a hilarious and exciting tale. O'Callaghan gives an energetic and unwavering performance, which doesn't wane over the hour and fifteen minutes running time. However, some of this energy is at times a little hectic.

This one man show features about five or six different characters, but the momentum of the performance did cause the female characters O'Callaghan was portraying to blur into one amorphous, generic female presence. The benefit of theatre and comedy at the fringe though is that each performance can be very different, so with adjustments in delivery, perhaps taking a little more time to tranisition between characters, O'Callaghan can define these women more clearly. 

Again, O'Callaghan's zeal and the pace of delivery caused some of the punch lines to be rather knocked out of the way. In the same way the female characters were a little indistinct, a more considered approach would benefit the jokes in the show. One of two gags that should have brought out great belly laughs suffered. A slight tweek with the direction would see this easily sorted. 

Surprisingly, considering the speed of the performance the show did run 15 minutes over the running time posted by the venue. So, if you're planning on seeing other shows after Who's Your Daddy afford yourself some extra time. 

Who's Your Daddy will hopefully improve over the course of its run, tidying up the one or two loose ends and so becoming a great comedic play at this year's Fringe.
