Sam Rose In The Shadows @ Bedlam Theatre

Review by Jess Duxbury | 05 Sep 2013

Sam Rose wanders the city clutching his ‘Sad Things’ box and desperately searching for a way to unlock it. Meanwhile his son, Ivan, is forbidden to leave the house, instead dreaming of the dragons he’s sure his father is off fighting. In the words of Tucked In: "This story is for anyone who has felt sad and now feels a little better..."

The stars of the 2011 show Tim and Light return to the Fringe with this slick and elegant show; firmly establishing themselves, once again, as masters of enchanting story-telling. The cast immerse their audience in the spirit of the production from the moment they step through the door. Through stunningly harmonic music and beautifully crafted puppets the five actors unfold the sadness and heroism of the Rose father and son. The script is simple and clean, without patronising its younger audience members, leaving the way clear for the stagecraft of this remarkable company to shine through.

Tucked In truly are a joy to behold. You can rest assured that, like the company’s puppets, you too will be whisked off and carried through this humorous, elegant and magical hour of story-telling.
