Real Horror Show @ Assembly Roxy

It seems counter-intuitive that a play combining comedians like Colin Hoult, Sarah Daykin (of TV's Chickens), Matthew Floyd Jones (of Frisky and Mannish fame), Stuart Laws, Louise Stewart (her off Burnistoun), and John Kearns would be devastatingly dark, murderously macabre, and just downright spooky. Nonetheless, Real Horror Show is coming to cast its shadow over the 2013 Fringe.

Directed by Kat Hoult, Real Horror Show concerns itself with underlining the worst in human nature. The creators of the show drew inspiration from a combination of 60s horror films, and live horror plays – or rather, what they found was lacking.

"What I felt was missing was a genuine sense of modern up-to-date social comment," points out Hoult. "They all seemed a bit stuck in the campy Victorian type horror story and I thought it would be nice to try and do one for a generation of horror fans who had seen Hostel and Wolf Creek."

Apparently, the process of creating the show involved both watching a great deal of horror films and being locked in dark basements for long periods of time. While not all the cast are fans of horror performances, the result promises to be chilling.
