Out of His Skin @ Zoo Southside

Review by Eric Karoulla | 20 Aug 2013

Out of His Skin is best described as the dance version of Fight Club. It is adrenaline-full yet ridiculously in control – to the point that the high-energy piece becomes very flat due to the lack of alteration in pace. There are no dips and climaxes, only high intensity.

The dancers are greatly talented and the choreography very clearly showcases their talents, yet there are no particular surprises here. It is a great show, and 2Faced are a very talented company, so this is perfectly understandable, but they don’t give the sense they are driving themselves outside their comfort zone. There seems to be a lack of investment in terms of narrative, since taking one theme and running with it for an hour doesn’t seem to be the way to make something extremely interesting.

Nonetheless, if you enjoy cutting, precise, and energetic choreography performed by muscular men, this is the show for you.
